[MMD] is sort for MikuMikuDance and as the name sagest, it’s
primly a dance animating program but it can be used for much more creativity
because it’s not just limited to dance. MMD has been used to re create movie
moments such as the matrix Neo Vs Morpheus or the agents and light sabre fights
by RvD.
The program is freeware and only runs on windows xp/vista and
7, but doesn’t seaport Mac, iMac, Linux or windows 8 and its available in both
japans and English. The program was 1st used as promotional video
for VOCALOIDS (1) (sound/voice synthesizer and some fans still uses it for this
reason and make animated shorts or minim movies knows as MMD funny Olympics
(vol1 to 8). Like i said its freeware but that doesn’t mean its licence free.
[MMD] comes preloaded with a sample dance motion data (30 seconds) and comes
with the following VOCALOID mascots. Hastune Miku, Kegamine Len and Rin, Kaito,
Meiko (Adult), Miiko Sakine (teen), and 3 others and all subjected to its own
copyright licancy. Buy you can also downloaded 30+ official VOCALOID mascots
(Luka, Teto, SeeU and the newest member Oliver) as well as custom made models
like characters from anime shows or games, including GLaDOS in robot and semi
human form.
MMD is a fun animating program to use, but its controls and
user interface is annoying and tricky to get use to. But saying that its a real
time program, no matter how many characters or objects to have moving it will always
almost run at full 25 FPS
Interface- MMD users a tab system and in each tab contains
options depending on what object/ model is selected, example a model is selected
and the tabs would have face shape keys, size modifications and “accessories”
(pinning an object to a bone). Or colours filters and lance focus if it’s the comer.
The downside to this is you need to change from one object (model, camera.
Lights, Stage) to another.
my thoughts.
Animating- MMD uses no modifiers or IK/FK constants other
then clothing (ties, belts, dress, ecs) or hair. Upside is you have full control
of the movements but the downside is it will take longer as each bone needs to
me moved and key framed.
Models- each model will load in its default position
(T-pose) and with no motion dater or start frames. And the models are fully
rigged and all with face shape keys as well as being full details (what you see
is what you get)
MMD can be annoying at times but once you get the hand of its
animating system its easy to use, its a good freeware animating program, especially
if your a fan of VOCALOIDS as MMD will recognize VOCALOID 1,2.3 voice data
(audio tracks). ...
they are hours on hours of fan made [MMD] content, from star wars, the Matrix to family guy... some good, others outstanding then some are just plane weird
