02 of 32: statement of intent

Following the Rational, and following a poorly presented presentation we were asked to produce a Statement of Intent, this will articulate more clearly and more in-depth on what my Extended Practice Project will have. Some things to consider such as.
. What exactly is the project for (self-initiated or a live brief?)
. who are the target audience?
. areas of research to be investigated
. testing and prototyping
. evidence of planning and organisation

and just like the Rational here are the main areas/

STATEMENT OF INTENT

Question 2

Subjects and ThemesBroadly speaking what are you interested in exploring and why?
The project will revolve around fantasy fairy tales, mainly the world of Little Red Riding Hood. Because of this the theme(s) I'll be looking at will be joy, threat /fear (minimum), feeling of 'awe' and wonder.
The reason if using a fairy tail/fantasy feel is for a few reasons; mainly my intention is to make a short animation that is age appropriate, as in not violent, harm or death. As for Joy and 'awe' this is a child's imagination in an unfamiliar place...

Question 3

Statement of IntentSpecifics of what you want to do, during this module?
If you plan on working on multiple briefs to demonstrate your practice, identify clearly each brief.
A short hybrid animation (use of 70% 3D assets and 30% 2D assets)will be loosely based on the fairy tale ‘Little Red Riding hood’. I say ‘loosely’ because it won’t follow either the original or the re-told versions of Red Riding Hood, but rather take elements from the story and adding a slight twist/change to the overall story.
Opening
The animation will start from where CoP3 left off (where the character is in the newly emerged room) from here she would go over to the toy box, pull out and put on a red sheet (cloth will pass the camera acting as a scene transfer between real world and the dream/story segment)
Dream/Nightmare Segment
Here the character will now be wearing a ‘Red Riding Hood outfit’ and she would be walking the path when she gets distracted and she hears something making her venture into the woods…
As she’s venturing though the woods picking flowers and looking round she becomes aware that something is following her. As she ventures deeper into the dark woods she comes face to face with a large (colour TBC) wolf…
Now scared she starts running throw the woods towards the daylight and away from the shadows/darkness behind her…
From time to time the wolf will be ahead of her seemingly always knowing where she would be next…(to avoid repetitive shots, some will be from the Wolfs Point of View as he stalks her from the shadows)
Ending
with a few turns and ducks behind trees she leaves the woods relatively unharmed (a few scratches) apron finding the path and reaching granny’s house she slowly and nervously enters a darkened room. The final shot will be a point of view of the Wolf as he runs down the path into the house ready to attack (or is he…)
Snap back to reality, the girl wakes up in her darkened room, scared and upset, as she runs off out the room we (the camera) lowers to the table to see several drawings of her dream/imagination and… ‘The End’(?)
2d assists
The animation will contain 2d assets in two forms…
Digital backgrounds (Forest/Woods) since the story will be inside a child’s imagination from their point of view, the surrounding backgrounds will be a blend of 3d and 2d assets this is where the 3D layers will be used

And 2d drawn assets such as when Red Riding Hood gets scared or hides she will be able to change from a 3d form to a flat 2d drawn (much like the concept used in ‘The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds’) and what I used un my CoP3 practical.

Question 4

Explain how this will be developing your Specialist Practice?
During this project I will have made a short animation that focuses mainly on 3d assets but it will also contain 2d drawn characters (segments) by the end of this project I will be able to develop and expand my animating and modelling skills. I will have also pick up a few skill sets from After Effects from using rotoscoping and using 3d layers (maybe).
In addition I should have also developed my drawing and story planning skills as well as a better awareness and understanding of story structure and timing of animations.
