12 of 32: style and design

Its all well and good making a story. Pulling mood boreds out of thin air, but its all pointless if you don’t consider what time and setting the film will be in, will it be set in the future, past, or today? All this would have a huge effect on the character designs and over all visceral. In addicting to visuals, will the animation take on a more cartoony cel shaded style, or a more realistic feel with cloth and hair simulations?

The answer is,,, im not quite sure, conceding the idea will used different media styles, a Hybrid Animation. the character (and anything that they interact with) will be Full 3D, but the backgrounds, such as the woodlands, path, and granny's cottage will be 2D (either 2d drawn, or 2d rendered,,,or a mix)

But they is also another part, as the statement of intent stated, little Red will have a kinda ability (tho rare) when she gets scared, she will changed from her full 3d form, to a 2d hand drawn form. This means the overall design (such as simulated hair) is out of the question.  One final part to consider is the story involves a real world and a dream world, since the real wold version of Mika (Red Riding) is also 3d, and her room itself is 3d, logic would say that the dream would would be renderd using a semi Toon-shader. This will help distinguish the two worlds,,,if it wasn’t clear by colour changed

On the note of Colour. The real would version version will have more brighter smoother colours, some what happy, after all it is in a kids room, and the dream would use a more darker colour pallet, not greys or blacks, but darkened, faded colours.

(Edit Note: the overall styal of the 2d backgounds will have a similer feel to that of Happy Tree Friends, family Guy, American Dad, and any other 'Flash' based cartoony animation.)
